10 Life Transforming Habits.

Habits actually make an individual, as Swami Vivekananda germanely quoted that character of a man is a bundle of habits. This piece of wisdom sounds so simple but it is actually so true and deep enough that it take years and years to sink into it. Alas, still many of us ignore this truth and just settle for suboptimal life by practicing habits which really don't enhance the quality of life rather become a cause of constant pain and sorrow.

Never say any man is hopeless, because he only represents a character, a bundle of habits, which can be checked by new and better ones. Character is repeated habits, and repeated habits alone can reform character. ~ Swami Vivekananda

People who are on their path of personal growth are always seeking ways to inculcate the best habits to chisel out the best character out of themselves. Following are some of the best habits which if practiced daily can significantly transform life, provided one is willing and determined to bring the desired change.

  1. Eat less and Healthy
  2. Your body is the only instrument that you have through which you can enjoy this world. The sense of touch, hear, sight, smell and taste are five senses through which you perceive this world. Imagine for a moment, if any one of these stops working, how the world would feel to you, I am sure, not so beautiful. If you provide the best care to your body not just externally but internally as well, it will surely work efficiently. It doesn't need much input, and that too when it is really exhausted. Ayurveda, the age-old Indian system of health and medicine, prescribes eating less and healthy. As per Ayurveda, the correct ratio for food intake is, fill stomach with half with food, one-fourth with liquid, one-fourth should be left empty.

    Eat healthy and natural vegetarian food which is easier to digest and provides maximum nutrition. Since each particle of food becomes a part of a body so be careful while choosing it. If you are experiencing any digestion related problem or obesity which is generally due to overeating, you must pay attention to your diet and make alterations by consulting your dietician. Remember, only a healthy body can have a healthy mind.

  3. Think more and high
  4. Thinking is something which is really becoming obsolete in the era of technology due to which we miss the opportunity to have our own thoughts and instead enjoy only boring forwards. The side effect is, one becomes susceptible to suboptimal thoughts of others and make them as a part of personal thinking. Really, this is unfortunate. Try to have some time exclusively for thinking and think only high thoughts whatever comes to your mind. It is also a good exercise for your mind.

  5. Speak less and slow
  6. Speaking demands energy and if you speak incessantly and undesirably, in gossiping or argumenting, you are draining precious energy which you could otherwise utilize in thinking good thoughts or doing more productive work. Speaking slowly gives a better chance to other person to hear and assimilate the information. If you really want to leave an impact on others then speak less and slowly, and this way you save your energy as well.

  7. Stop criticizing others
  8. By criticizing others you can never change other person rather you create a distance and friction. Avoid criticizing, if at all you have to, find the humblest way of doing it. This will help you to overcome your negative attitude towards others.

  9. Accept and Respect others
  10. Accept and respect others for what they are rather than finding faults and better look for reasons to accept the other person. Just accept and respect everybody unconditionally.

  11. Exercise and mediate daily
  12. Do exercise for 30 mins every day without a gap. Yoga would be the best exercise you can opt for but you can choose any that suits and fits your routine. This 30 mins investment everyday can save you from obesity, cardiac problems, diabetes and other lifestyle related health problems in long run. Supplement your exercise with 15 mins of meditation which means to be with self, completely disconnected from the world. Doing it every day will bring significant changes in how you think and respond to everyday situations of life.

  13. Read something inspiring every day
  14. Reading everyday something inspiring can profoundly change your thinking and mindsets. You can easily detach yourself from the suboptimal thinking, this daily dose of inspiration can work as a vitamin pills for your mind. Read the inspirational books from great masters that history has produced. Please ensure, you do not read news paper as the first thing in the morning as there is nothing inspiring in it.

  15. Practice selflessness
  16. Do at least one task every day in which you have no personal gain or interest. Doing something for others, brings a great joy and satisfaction. Every day look for an opportunity where you can help somebody.

  17. Appreciate more
  18. Appreciation is an art, but one good news is, we all are born with it, just need to remove the dust gathered over it. Make sure, you appreciate at least one habit, aspect of everybody you meet or anything you see. It will help you to have a broader horizon about people and things around you. Just keep it in mind, nobody is born without good qualities, it is only that we need eyes to see it.

  19. Be grateful
  20. For sure, we have million reasons to feel grateful about; we just need to dig it a bit to see. Just say thanks to all people who are in your life, doesn't matter if they are proving good or bad to you, they are for sure giving you some learning every day. A grateful attitude will surely help you to see the presence of abundance in your life.

You might be having powerful habits already, but including these will definitely transform your life. Give it a try for 24 days and see the magic happening to you.

Start living consciously and challenge yourself to get into a zone of inspiring people - why not - all inspiring people are just bundles of great habits.
