Motherhood, the most beautiful and exclusive experience for a woman on this earth. The joy of giving birth and seeing the part of self growing in front is indescribable and can only be felt by a mother. This is a relationship without which nobody would have ever experienced life. The child has a special bond with mother and nothing can replace or substitute the motherly love in this world. This is the only relationship which is naturally filled with deep love, affection and care.
*The picture above has a special significance. Red and yellow colors are the most auspicious colors during marriage celebrations and other festivals of Hindus. The symbol "Swastika" signifies the continuity of life and considered as the most auspicious symbol for happiness and prosperity at home.
Ahoi Ashtami is celebrated mainly in the Northern part of India and that too in some selected communities, many people do not even know about this festival. It falls exactly after four days of Karva Chuath celebrations, this year it is falling on Tue, 6th Nov, 2012.
Mothers observe fast for a day and do not eat anything but can drink water. Later in the evening, mother narrates a traditional story associated with this festival to all her children. She prays for the health, well being and long life of her children and then worship stars by offering water and some special homemade sweets, and with that she breaks her fast. During puja, there is an interesting and fun filled ritual, where she throws the home made sweets (tuntunae-munmunae, a funny and kiddish name, especially kept for little children to attract) and invites all her children to compete and ask them to grab the maximum. Children feel involved and enjoy this play during puja.
